who
I'm a graphic designer and former commercial photographer living in St. Louis, Missouri with my wife, three sons, and two loud, bouncy Shelties (those are dogs, by the way).

what and why
This web site was designed to serve several purposes: Originally I intended to create just a portfolio site — I'm self-employed so having one of those is pretty important. Of course, that part of the site still isn't done and at the rate I'm going ... uh, never mind.
I also thought it would be cool to have a place for new images, especially the non-commercial ones, to live. It seems like such a waste to just stash them away on my hard drive, or in a film sleeve in a filing cabinet. A photoblog seemed like a good home for them, and I had hopes that it would encourage me to spend a bit more time shooting for reasons other than money. The reality is that I now earn nearly all of my income from design and animation rather than photography and don't shoot nearly as much as I should or would like to. As I update this page in Spring 2008, the site has been live for three and a half years — and mostly ignored for at least one of those years. My original goal was to try to post a new image every day but, well, that idea didn't last long. I just work too much and travel too much to devote that much time to the site. I've finally settled in to a routine of posting here when I have something I want to post, but not killing myself when I don't. In other words, I'd rather post pictures that I find interesting than to post crap on a daily basis — which is not to say that you won't think some of this stuff is crap, but that's a different discussion. (For what it's worth, I think some of them are crap, as in, "What was I thinking when I posted this masterpiece?") What's here is a mixture of new and old (mostly new), film and digital, shot on various formats, with no central theme. |

how
Camera equipment I use — or possibly more accurately, used to use — includes large format Cambos, medium format Hasselblads, small and digital format Canons, and a 7 megapixel Sony point-and-shoot. The fact is, I haven't shot a piece of film in at least a year and a half. For all practical purposes, I'm 100% digital now, not withstanding the Hasselblads and Cambos sitting unused in cases on shelves in my basement.
The site is powered by Movable Type 3.3, which I still don't really understand, and was originally based on MT templates from Hinagata. |
